I don’t see Bonner’s role changing a lot, but Blair and Splitter had their roles significantly reduced at times because Pop trusted McDyess more in certain games or situations. I think his retirement forces Pop to live with Blair and Splitter a little more now, with Bonner filling essentially the same role he always has – spread the floor, try to crash the boards and energize the team. He is ok in doses, but too much of a defensive liability to ever be the “trusted big”.

You forgot to state the obvious. LOL, It opens the way for more Bonner as well. With Pop being a “corporate knowledge” guy, if things went bad Dice was usually his trusted big next to Tim. Now when all else fails I sincerely fear that his trusted big will be none other than the “Red Rocket”.

With regards to the Spurs seeking the 2 bigs you mentioned, another factor has to be considered. While they both have a pretty solid offensive game (especially Jefferson) neither is mobile enough on the defensive end to play ‘WITH’ Tim Duncan. One of them would have to play the Power Forward spot. Jefferson, Hibbert and Duncan are all to slow to guard alot of the Power Forwards today. The only reason a team like say…. the Lakers can do it is because one Big guy (gasol) is sufficiently mobile and lengthy.

I’m thinking that if the Spurs were gonna make a move for Hibbert, they would have done so when they traded Hill to Indy. I would like Al Jefferson, but at 14 mil a year, the Spurs would likely have to give up RJ and another big (McDyess or Bonner), but I don’t know that he’s worth the price. If the Spurs were to trade for another quality big, they’d almost surely have to go East, and I don’t know who they could get. Gray is a free agent so he makes sense at a reasonable cost. They could maybe even try to land Carl Landry, Kris Humphries, or Troy Murphy – all guys who can score. I just don’t know if they would be able to while over the cap.

Totally, agree with you on another BIG UGLY but how about Al Jefferson and Roy Hibbert and clear some of that dead weight at SF.
